Kim Su Chol

Kim Su Chol was born in the Central District of Pyongyang on April 11, 1960. He enrolled in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature, Kim Il Sung University in 1978 after finishing the foreign language school of Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies. After graduating the undergraduate course in 1983, he took a training course at Karl Marx University in Germany until 1989. Since then he has been a German lecturer at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature of Kim Il Sung University.

He carried out important research projects including the compilation of Samhung E-dictionary and the development of German-Korean machine translation program. He got a PhD for his dissertation "Study on the contemporary German stylistics" in 2015.

He currently lectures on German linguistics, History of German Literature and other German-related subjects.

He authored more than 10 textbooks and reference books including History of German Literature and German Linguistics 2. In March, 2018 his essay "Discourse markers applied in the teaching of German as a foreign language" was published in Zeitschrift für interkulturelle Germanistik (Intercultural German Magazine) of the World German Literature Council. As a member of World German Literature Council, he presented a number of papers on German literature and German-Korean machine translation program in many international seminars including World German Literature Seminar. He published in domestic magazines over 30 essays including "Historical study on the contemporary German stylistics".

He supervised degree holders including one PhD thesis.

His research results were highly appreciated by President Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
