The mission of the Faculty of History as a centre of historical education and research in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is to train specialists in the history of the revolutionary activities of the peerless great persons of Mt Paektu, Korean history, world history, archeology, and folklore.

The faculty was separated from the old Faculty of History and Literature to be the Faculty of History in Juch 38 (1949).

The Faculty of History has ten departments, which include the Department of the Revolutionary History of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, the Department of the Revolutionary History of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, the Department of the Revolutionary History of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the Department of the Revolutionary History of anti-Japanese war heroine Comrade Kim Jong Suk, the Department of Korean History, the Department of Archaeology, the Department of Korean Folklore, the Department of Foreign History and the Department of Religious Study, and two research units, which includes the Relics Preservation Information Unit and the Human Evolution Research Unit.

The courses include the history of the revolutionary activities, the Korean history and the foreign history.

The main subjects include the Revolutionary History of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, the Revolutionary History of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, the Revolutionary History of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the Revolutionary History of Anti-Japanese Heroine Comrade Kim Jong Suk, the Korean History, the Korean Folklore, the History of Foreign Relations of Korea, Korean Archaeology, History of Status System of Korea, the History of the Land-owning System of Korea, the History of Houses in Korea and the Foreign History.

The Faculty of History has a staff of a hundred and ten lecturers and researchers including one candidate academician and forty Doctors of Philosophy. Fifty of them have professorship or associate professorship.

The faculty has 700 students.
