If it had not been for the immortal exploits of President
The Arch of Triumph is one of the monuments which carry through the immortal exploits of President who defeated the Japanese imperialists and turned the country into home of happiness for our people.
Chairman
"The Tower of the Juche Idea and the Arch of Triumph erected in Pyongyang, the revolutionary capital, are proud monumental structures of the age of the Workers' Party as well as monuments to immortal revolutionary history."
The Arch of Triumph was unveiled on April, 14th, 1982 on the occasion of the 70th birthday of President. It is a magnificent monument with the height of 60m and the width of 50.1m. Particularly 27m high and 18m wide arch gives sublime feeling for its giant shape and elegant decoration.
And the magnificent and unique architectural style is not the only element that make the monument great.
Carved in relief is the year "1925-1945" which clearly shows that this is a monument to eulogize President
"1925" is the year when President, as young as in his teens, left his home through the brushwood gate and set out on the 250-mile journey. These immortal years along with the immortal exploits of President, who triumphantly returned to the motherland after as long as 20 years with the national liberation, were engraved in gold letters.
For 20 years after he left his motherland, he persevered on the road of anti-Japanese revolution leaving the traces of blood on the crags of Mt Paektu and at every bend of the Amnok. Along the way full of manifold hardships and difficulties beyond imagination, he experienced every suffering that people can imagine. Among those sufferings was the grief over the deaths of his parents and younger brother, bitterness of burying his comrades in frozen grounds and exhaust and frustration from a series of crisis of life and death.
That's why President recollected in his reminiscences "With the Century" with great emotion that they had shed blood everywhere they had been and that every inch was stained with blood as the words of the song goes "Bright traces of blood on the crags of the Mt Paektu still gleam".
As he recollected, the road of anti-Japanese struggle for national liberation was literally the road of blood where they had to risk their lives.
President achieved the cause of national liberation after he had pushed his way through long bloody battles cherishing the boundless responsibility of revolution that Korea would never revive if they gave up, indomitable revolutionary spirits that they must defeat the enemies and liberate the country, and with boundless love for comrades and people.
It was thanks to the revolutionary history of anti-Japanese struggle which was pioneered and led by President that the tragedy of a ruined nation was cleared away and the new historic era when people could become the masters of everything and shape their own destiny on this land.
Chairman
On both sides of the carved words, there is the arch of sculpture "A Bugler of Victory" carved in relief which symbolizes the great victory of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.
The archway is fringed with 70 azalea reliefs and on the facets of the Arch of Triumph, there are the relieves of Mt Paektu, the sacred mountain of revolution.
The Arch of Triumph was peculiarly erected in its size and architectural style according to the unique architectural mode of our nation.
Varied combination of the Arch of Triumph, the memorial structure in arch style with various sculptures further highlights its ideological and artistic quality.
The harmony with green grass, surrounding buildings and thick forest of Mt Moran is giving a sharp relief to the Arch of Triumph.
This Arch of Triumph stands high telling and retelling through generations the immortal revolutionary exploit and sanguinary history of President who brought liberation to our fatherland.
From its imposing structure we come to keep in deep mind how our socialist fatherland, the everlasting cradle to the Korean people came into being and where today's happiness and promising future find their roots.
