Unforgettable Conferences of Agricultural Officials in March, 1993

The meetings of agricultural officials of different provinces held in March, 1993, where President Kim Il Sung, despite being in his 80s, acquainted himself with the farming situations in all the provinces and untied knotty problems are still in the memories of the Korean people.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Successful farming is the key to a perfect solution of the problem of food for the people."

In March, 1993, President Kim Il Sung spent subsequent days on meetings of agricultural officials for rich harvest, working heart and soul for the improvement of people's living standard.

On March 4th, he met the (then) management board chairman of the (then) Chongsan, Wonhwa and Okdo co-operative farms and acquainted himself with the farming situations. In the meeting of agricultural officials in Pyongyang City, South Phyongan Province and Nampho City the following day, he enlightened the specific ways to increase grain production through the experience and lessons drawn by the farming of the previous year, and eased the shortage of fertilizer, trucks and tractors and other problems arising in farming.

On 6th when he convened a meeting of agricultural officials in North and South Hwanghae Provinces and Kaesong City, he made them aware of the correct reasons for the failure to increase the grain yield to that of the peak year and explained important problems in increasing grain yield, followed by settling the problems arising in farming such as electricity, fertilizer and soil improvement.

On 8th and 9th in the meeting of agricultural officials in North Phyongan and Jagang Provinces, he said that people's living standard should be increased and that plenty of reserve grain stored by raising good crops, which was why he started to guide farming in different provinces that year. Saying that it was important for the agricultural officials of North Phyongan Province to give proper guidance to farming, he expounded concrete ways and means to increase grain yield. He continued to set out the tasks for and solutions to garden farming, cocoon production, potato farming and other agricultural sectors of Jagang Province.

On 10th, he convened and guided the meeting of agricultural officials of South Hamgyong and Kangwon Provinces. Having set the grain yield to be achieved per hectare in the farms of South Hamgyong Province and total grain yield of the province and clarified the specific methods for it, he acquainted himself with the farming situation of Kangwon Province and said that it should produce plenty of grain to be self-sufficient in food, and initiated the ways for it including the selection of proper rice species right for the climatic and soil conditions.

In the meeting of agricultural officials of North Hamgyong and Ryanggang Provinces on 12th, too, he acquainted himself with the agricultural problems in the two provinces and gave light to the directions and ways to develop agriculture according to the geographical characteristics and conditions.

He is, indeed, a benevolent father of the people who made painstaking efforts for the people's food problems to the last days of his life.
