Devoting Even On His Birthday

Chairman Kim Jong Il was a great model who devoted his everything to turning into reality all the desires and intentions of President Kim Il Sung at all costs.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Comrade Kim Jong Il resolves in my place the raised problems, burning midnight oil, and is making all devoted efforts to bring pleasure and satisfaction to me."

Among monumental edificies that President Kim Il Sung was deeply concerned for with the intention to provide the Korean people with the best things in the world is Kim Il Sung Stadium.

Chairman Kim Jong Il made a decision to reconstruct Moranbong Stadium(then) into a modern one roofed with shades on the occasion of the 70th birthday of President Kim Il Sung and gave field guidance on the reconstruction site.

On his 40th birthday, February 16, 1982, all the Korean people wished him some rest without anything to worry about. However, Chairman Kim Jong Il, who regarded it as an utmost task to realize the desire of President Kim Il Sung, gave field guidance to the reconstruction site.

Looking at the magnificently expanded stadium, he appreciated that the project could be pushed ahead at a very fast speed even in winter thanks to the builders who buckled down to the reconstruction work with a resolve true to the intention of the Party Central Committee.

He looked around the reconstruction site and kept his eyes on the part where the shades of background and auditorium were connected.

He told the officials concerned that the reconstruction project was going successfully, but the shades that covered the background, auditorium and platform were not the same in height, thus spoiling the apperance of the stadium.

He said that the shades consisting of three layers looked like three caps, all of which were worn differently.

The officials were feeling guilty about their mistake. Chairman told them that making a determination was not easy, but once it was decided, then they could find a solution. He continued to say that they should have more discussions about how to change the shades of the background seats.

That day, after careful consideration of the ardent desire of the Korean people to call the historic Moranbong Stadium associated with the revolutionary facts of President Kim Il Sung by his august name, the Chairman said that the stadium should be called Kim Il Sung Stadium after the reconstruction work. He repeatly streesed that it should be completed perfectly at the highest level, as it would be named after President Kim Il Sung.

Chairman Kim Jong Il visited reconstructed Kim Il Sung Stadium in the presence of President Kim Il Sung on April 1, 1982.

Looking at the stadium reconstructed at the highest level, President Kim Il Sung expressed his full satisfaction.

Looking around the facilities and equipment of the stadium, the President highly appreciated that its reconsturction was done perfectly done. He said that it was a miracle to complete the reconstruction project of such a large and grand stadium only in four months in the severe winter season, which demonstrated once again the might of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Korean people and the working class.

Indeed, Kim Il Sung Stadium was a brilliant fruition created by Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted his everything to realizing all the desires and intentions of President Kim Il Sung without fail.
