Among the immortal exploits by President
The respected Comrade
"The 20th century was, both in name and in reality, Comrade
The first democratic elections in Korea took place on November 3, 1946.
One day in October when the nomination of candidates for deputies to the provincial, city and county people's committees was in full swing at all constituencies, the President visited Samdung Sub-county to meet the people who would take part in the first democratic elections.
Expressing his gratitude to the people who were enthusiastically cheering, he made a speech in the mass rally, calling on everyone to take part in the first historic democratic elections as one.
Saying that the elections would further strengthen the people's government, consolidate the successes achieved by all democratic reforms and promote the building of a democratic, independent and sovereign state, he stressed that the elections of deputies to the provincial, city and county people's committees to be carried out by them were the most popular and democratic ones.
Then he said that our people's government was a genuine government of people representing and defending the interests of the broad masses.
The people there were moved to tears as they were so grateful to him for setting them up as genuine masters of the country.
Looking at them full of excitement, he ardently appealed to everyone to take part in the elections as one with a correct understanding of their historic significance and genuinely democratic character and to vote for the candidates, thus fulfilling their sacred duty as citizens.
His speech that they should consolidate the people's government to be established by electing their representatives for the first time in their liberated country and build a new Korea where all the people would be equally well-off instilled great joy and enthusiasm into all the participants that day.
After the rally he had a talk with workers, peasants, youth and students.
He told a representative of peasants, who expressed his gratitude for giving them land, that the land was not given by him, but they demanded it and obtained it through their struggle. He continued that now the land, mountains and rivers belonged to all of them and therefore they should value the property of the country and the people and work hard for the happiness of themselves and younger generations. He added that the more they worked, the better their life would be so much.
That day he also explained to the representatives of workers about the significance of labor law and the role of working class in nation building, while instructing the women who were liberated from the double and treble subjugation to take an active part in social life.
As the President told them about the significance of the democratic elections, the nation-building work and the prospects of the country in such an easy way, people could be able to visualize the future of the country and clearly realize that he was a venerable man sincerely regarding the people's joy as his own and sharing joys and sorrows with them, always finding himself among them.
