The Genuine Water of Life

 2023.6.12.

The sight of our socialist countryside full of ripe crops and fruit trees always makes us recall the painstaking efforts of President Kim Il Sung who was so concerned for our peasants' livelihood.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"President Kim Il Sung was the greatest of the great, who has no equal in terms of personality both as a revolutionary and as a man."

In Juche 36 (1947), peasants, who had received land from the country, were working in rice farming to their heart's content with having no drought as they used water from the Chongchon River. Therefore, they had enough food after paying water taxes.

In August, heavy rain flooded some of the fields around the river.

On August 9, President Kim Il Sung paid a visit to Sinanju Sub-County, Anju County to judge the flood damage.

He met and kindly asked officials from the sub-county whether the crops had been damaged or not during the heavy rain, looking around the flooded rice fields personally. He added that the drainage system should be built as well as the irrigation system, stressing that water management is very important in farming.

He also checked the amount of water taxes paid by the peasants and said that water taxes should be cut to improve the living of peasants who had become genuine masters of land.

In those days when the Japanese imperialists occupied our country, our peasants without even a patch of land had to live from hand to mouth, being exploited by landowners and the Japanese imperialists although they worked very hard.

Only when President Kim Il Sung had liberated the country and made them masters of land and state, could they find their happy life, hence everybody thought that water taxes were not expensive.

However, he took the muddy rural road, taught the knowhow of water management, and even lowered the water taxes to improve the living of our peasants.

Indeed, it was the boundless love of President Kim Il Sung, not the water of the Chongchon River, that provided happy life for our peasants.

After that, President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the agricultural tax in kind was completely abolished in our country, so that our peasants were completely freed from the small amount of tax in kind.
