Patriotic desire expressed in the national flag

The DPRK, united under the banner of patriotism, is making more dynamic advance toward the goal set by the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea. In any part of the country, its flag with a five-pointed star is flying high, demonstrating the spirit of a powerful country.

Looking at the flag flying high in the sky, the Korean people recall the noble image of Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted his all to the prosperity of the country and happiness of the people.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Comrade Kim Jong Il was a peerless patriot; he loved his country and fellow people more ardently than anybody else did, and he devoted his whole life to achieving the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people. Thus he performed imperishable exploits that are etched in the history of the country."

Chairman Kim Jong Il is the peerless patriot who was on the road of patriotic devotion day and night with the noble will to turn the DPRK into a socialist paradise where the people enjoy happiness generation after generation and an invincible power envied by the whole world.

There is an anecdote telling the patriotism of Chairman Kim Jong Il about the national flag.

On September 9 morning, 1948, the day the DPRK announced its founding to the world, young Kim Jong Il flew our national flag.

He raised the national flag made by his mother at the porch of his house and loudly shouted "Long live our Republic!"

In his childhood, he treated even a piece of paper depicting the flag of our country as a sacred one and wrote beautiful poems about the national flag. He lived a passionate life with boundless and endless love for the national flag and the country.

The Chairman personally revealed, after decades, the feat of a tank crew who flew the national flag of the DPRK at the enemy's government building in the Fatherland Liberation War and honoured him the title of the Hero of the Republic. He also encouraged the struggle of overseas Koreans who turned out to defend the national flag in the middle of a foreign country, giving them warm love and trust.

Today the love for the national flag is being implanted deeper among the Koreans amid making leap forward overcoming unprecedented trials and hardship. The national flag, which the Chairman flew high with love for the country, is flying higher through generations and centuries.

On September 9, 2018, a national flag hoisting ceremony was held at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, which was recorded as a significant and unforgettable one in the history of the country. It was the day 70 years after when young Kim Jong Il had flown the national flag at the porch of his house.

The flag of the DPRK emerged in the solemn melody of the national anthem, announcing the start of the grand mass gymnastics and artistic performance "The Glorious Country", which was going to show the audience the history of the DPRK in epic depiction.

Today the national flag of the DPRK, reflecting the patriotic desire of Chairman Kim Jong Il, is flying high in the sky over the world, fully demonstrating the spirit of a dignified power under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who is faithfully carrying forward the noble intention of the Chairman.

Our national flags are everywhere: on the Korean-style machine tools, which have been put on an intelligent, precise and high-performance basis, demonstrating the spirit of self-reliance and self-development; on the golden fields with heavy ears grown under the care of the Party; on the DPRK's reconnaissance satellite "Malligyong-1", which looks far into the sky; on the ironclad units parading across Kim Il Sung Square.
