Traces of Devotion Left in the Stormy Waves of Cho Islet

 2025.12.16.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"General Kim Jong Il climbed Chol Pass and Mt Osong braving howling snowstorms, visited Cho Island across a rough sea, and travelled to other frontline posts; all these places are witnesses to the patriotic devotion he displayed on the road of Songun-based leadership to defend the country."

Chairman Kim Jong Il is the peerless patriot who continued his journey of patriotism and devotion to the fatherland and people from the first day he embarked on the road of revolution to the last moment of his lofty revolutionary life with a firm determination to be the master of the Korean revolution.

The Chairman used to say that the life of a man is that of devotion to the fatherland and people. He kept deep in his heart the country and people and sacrificed his everything to turn the DPRK into the most dignified and brilliant country and make people the most powerful and the happiest in the world.

The traces of patriotic devotion of the Chairman who dedicated his tireless efforts to the prosperity of the socialist fatherland and the well-being of people are clearly left along the stormy sea route to Cho Islet.

It was early in the morning of November 23rd, 1996 when he started his on-the-spot guidance to the defense unit of Cho Islet.

It was still very dark and the cold wind of late autumn was blowing with raining, and the sea was quite stormy. So the accompanying officials unanimously and earnestly tried to hold him back from going on with his journey.

But he insisted on going there, saying that the KPA soldiers were waiting for him and questioned them back whether they had ever sailed before a fair wind. Despite all their efforts to stop him, he walked towards the small speedboat and set sail against the heavy seas.

As expected, no sooner had they started sailing did the boat begin tossing about against the waves. The bow of the boat was raised high above and the next moment plunged hard into the seawater, giving the boat a big shock.

The accompanying officials who never experienced such a situation grabbed the side of the boat to keep them steady.

The pouring rain and the stormy sea that hit hard on the boat wetted everyone on board and, to make matters worse, one of the speedboats were broken down in the propeller.

In such a savage weather the boat finally arrived at the quay.

The soldiers were very well aware of what the Chairman had gone through and couldn't help but shed tears incessantly. The sounds of them shouting "hurrah" echoed further and louder than the angry waves.

That day he gave on-the-spot-guidance over the unit without a moment's rest and gave precious teachings for the enhancement of combat readiness and improvement of the soldiers' lives.

His journey of devotion to the defense unit in Cho Islet will provide an actual proof to how sacrificing and tear-jerking the patriotic devotion of the Chairman who set out on the road of life-and-death to the country and people and to the long journey of Songun was.

The successful conclusion of the harsh "arduous march" and vigorous entrance into the period of brilliant march towards a socialist power are entirely attributable to the immortal patriotism and devotion of Chairman Kim Jong Il.

His life was, indeed, an immortal patriotic epic that was written with devotion to and self-sacrificing efforts for the prosperity and the well-being of the country and people.
