"President Kim Il Sung directed strenuous efforts in his lifetime to realizing the comprehensive mechanization of the rural economy."

In April every year all the Korean people feel deeper yearning for President Kim Il Sung who laid a solid foundation for the eternal prosperity of the country by overcoming great difficulties unprecedented in the history, while experiencing all sorts of hardships beyond imagination for the good of his country and people all his life.

President Kim Il Sung assigned the task of research into farm machines for fully mechanizing all farm work a long time ago and provided all necessary conditions for it. When new farm machines were developed, he went to the fields to see them and directed greater efforts to completing them as early as possible.

During his field guidance tour of South Hamgyong Province on a September day in 1991, he was told that Hamju County developed a trench plough and was using it in carpeting fields with humus soil.

As he saw the plough, which was contrived by the tractor drivers and farmers of the then Juso Cooperative Farm in the county by pooling their collective wisdom, he learned about its operation principle in detail. He was very pleased to say that it would be good if land could be ploughed deep, stressing that deep-ploughing of paddy fields should be done without fail no matter how much oil may be consumed.

He was deeply concerned about how hard it would be for the farmers to do the carpeting of fields with humus soil and how to relieve them of labour-consuming work even a bit, before calculating the consumption of oil. He cared for farmers so much with paternal affection.

And in December 1991, three months later, he received a report that the farmers in Hamju County contrived a new farm machine for weaving thatch, a dust-making and labour-consuming traditional work, and came out to the field again despite the cold windy weather.

After hearing a detailed explanation about the performance of the machine, he said with a broad smile on his face as if he was relieved of all cares that the farmers would like it as it was efficient and would enable them to work easily.

Indeed, the joy of the people was that of the President and he forgot all fatigue as he saw the people happy.

He was the benevolent father of the people who devoted his heart and soul all his life to completely relieving the farmers of all difficult and labour-consuming farm work, big and small, by realizing the comprehensive mechanization of rural economy.
