The Party emblem, the symbol of the greatest and most dignified WPK in the world, is solemnly placed in the hearts of all the people across the country on the occasion of the 81st founding anniversary of the WPK.

The emblem of the WPK

The emblem of the WPK is a symbol of the WPK, the organizer and guide of all victories of the Korean people, and a banner of victory clearly reflecting its formative and artistic qualities.

That is why the Korean people could always follow the long road of revolution from the first day of the foundation of the Party until today with victory and glory under the banner of victory, the emblem of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Our Party, whose red flag bears a hammer, a sickle and a writing brush, has, from the first day of its founding, shared joy and sorrow with the masses of the people; even at critical times when the country and the revolution were at the crossroads of victory or failure, it protected and looked after them and overcame the severe trials with them."

President Kim Il Sung made strenuous efforts to make the emblem of the Party a unique and the best one in the world.

He guided how to create the emblem of our Party, which was just founded after the liberation of Korea. In those days, he stressed the principled issues arising in the design of the emblem, saying that the emblem of our Party should be distinctive and that only then can they represent the unique character of our Party.

He said that the biggest shortcoming of the proposed drafts was that they represented only workers and farmers and ignored working intellectuals.

The President said that the creators had such a defect because the creators themselves didn't fully understand the mass character of the Workers' Party. He continued to say that the emblem of our Party should represent not only the working class and farmers but also working intellectuals to show that the WPK is the unified Party of the working masses.

He warmly said that the Party emblem should be made to represent the unity of the working class, farmers and working intellectuals with the working class as the core of the unity, and the leading role of the working class should be manifested. He went on to say that hammer can represent the working class, the sickle can represent the farmers, and the pen can represent the working intellectuals in the design of the Party emblem. But he suggested that brush would be a better alternative than pen to represent the working intellectuals in our own way.

At that time, the President guided the creation of the party emblem in person and paid deep attention to in what order to arrange the hammer, sickle and brush, and taught them in detail.

Thanks to the meticulous care and direct guidance of the President, the brush was engraved on the emblem of our Party together with the hammer and sickle and it was made into a fine one unique and perfect in its ideological content and formative and artistic qualities.
