We Must Live as We can, Not as Would

President Kim Il Sung, who regarded it as his lifelong motto to believe in the people as in heaven, always found himself among the people all his life and created and utilized the most plain and popular humors reflecting their will and desire, touching the hearts of all people.

When he talked to children, he shared their mentality and when he talked to the elderly, he became their intimate friend – he read people's minds like their mothers.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Thanks to the activities conducted by Comrade Kim Il Sung, the masses' demand and aspiration for independence became ideas, theories, lines and policies, and the most revolutionary and scientific guidelines were set out which were easily understood by them and which indicated the true road for them to take to shape their destiny."

On November 27, 1982, when he attended a conference of senior officials in the field of machine industry, he said that measures should be taken to produce large oxygen separators in urgent need for the steel and iron works, saying that it was a world trend to produce pig iron by blowing oxygen into the furnace, and repeatedly emphasized that we should manufacture all the oxygen plants to be installed at the new iron works by our own efforts.

He was then reported that a 12 000 m³ oxygen separator was expected to be installed at the (then) Hwanghae Iron Works. It was apparent because one single oxygen separator of a capacity of 12 000 m3 had more advantages than two oxygen separators of 6 000 m3 in terms of production and cost. The officials added that over 10 000 m3 oxygen separator was also popular in other countries.

Being absorbed in deep meditation, he looked around the hall and said in a discrete tone that the latter, regardless of its production cost, would be better than the former in our country because if the only one was out of order, it would hamper the overall production whereas the two of them would make it possible to make up for the absence of the either.

It was only after listening to him that the officials realized that they had wrong ideas.

As the production by oxygen-blast is the world trend, they could not but reproach themselves for trying to manufacture oxygen separators as they did in other countries, considering the economic value before others without taking into account the specific conditions in our country.

They could not but reproach themselves that had attempted to follow the example of other countries in producing oxygen separators, without taking into account the specific situations of the country, just because of the economic calculation and the concept that the production by oxygen-blast was a world trend.

Looking around the officials, he said that if we made copies of other countries it would resemble a sparrow walking with long steps like a stork, which would result in the former with its short legs torn.

A light smile rose in the hall as he tried to mimic a stork's manner of walking with his hands.

The officials came to clearly understand his intention of teaching them to live in their own way with their own spirit while creating a bright atmosphere by telling a funny story that a wild sparrow had been torn to death mimicking a stork's step.

His instruction was so humorous and impressive that it appealed to the officials a lot, but what was delving deeper into their minds was that we should do everything in our own way to suit our actual conditions, not blindly following others' ways.

All the officials looked up to him admiring for his profound knowledge of politics, military affairs, economy and culture as well as nature and every bit of life.

Indeed, his instructions covering all fields of the revolution and construction including politics, economy, military affairs and culture as well as detailed matters big or small, with his extraordinary insight, scientific analysis and judgment, far-sightedness and profound knowledge are matchlessly great in the world in terms of their sphere, philosophy and humor.
