A Slowdown of the Cruise Ship

 2024.4.12.

Soon socialist Korea will greet the Day of the Sun, the greatest national holiday when President Kim Il Sung was born.

On the occasion of this day, I would like to look back one of the moving anecdotes that he slowed down his cruise ship for the people's rest, left by President Kim Il Sung who lived among the people all his life and was a faithful son of the people.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Comrade Kim Il Sung's was a noble life of a people's leader, who regarded 'The people are my God' as his motto, applied it to his ideas and leadership and turned it into reality. For him, the masses of the people were always a teacher, and he was their loyal son."

President Kim Il Sung always thought of the people first in everything, regarding himself as the son of the people.

In the summer of Juche 83(1994), the President had a talk with the former U.S. President Jimmy Carter who was on a visit to the DPRK on a cruise ship gliding along the lower Taedong River.

When the cruise ship was passing a place outside the city, he suddenly called his entourage to slow the ship down.

The President pointed to a place on the river and asked Jimmy Carter, who was suddenly curious about slowing the boat down to look over there. The President told him that the working people were fishing on the bank of the river, so if we ruffled the water, it would be a hindrance. And he continued so even if we went a little slowly, we should not disturb the anglers.

Jimmy Carter was struck with admiration at what he had never imagined, that President Kim Il Sung saw the people as heaven, but he saw nothing but anglers.

That's why he answered the press asking what kind of man President Kim Il Sung was, without hesitation, that he was a greater man than the three presidents; George Washington who represented the founding and destiny of the United States, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.

Rahmawati Sukarnoputri, a chairman of Organizing Committee of Sukarno Education Foundation of Indonesia, said in a book.

"This was his frank confession as a human being. His opinion on people, in which he always gives a priority to interests of the people anytime and anywhere, was gained from the poverty and pain he had experienced in his childhood, and his noble love for the people had also grown in poverty. So Jimmy Carter, who grew up in a rich family and was also a rich man, was unable to understand the President's noble view on and love for the people."

The experiences that the President went through in the Mangyongdae family due to poverty such as gruel and sore throat influenced his spiritual growth during his childhood, and from this it can be said that his noble personality that always prioritizes the people was formed and developed in poverty.

But the history showed that there were some people who had suffered poverty had taken the road of comfort rather than the road for the people.

The President could think of the people first in any case because he had the experience of poor living and was under the revolutionary influence of his parents who had struggled for the independence of Korea without losing the spirit of the green pine on Nam Hill.

Thanks to this, President Kim Il Sung, not forgetting that he was the son of the people for even a moment, overcame life-and-death hardships in the struggle to liberate the country and devoted his all to the people, regarding the principle of believing in the people as in heaven as his motto during the period of building a new county, the Fatherland Liberation War and Socialist Construction.

That's why the Korean people always remember President Kim Il Sung who devoted his whole life to the people and keep his behests steadily true, holding his smiling image close to their hearts.
