A song unique to the DPRK: We Are the Happiest in the World

We Are the Happiest in the World is one of the famous songs of the times which the Korean people enjoy singing.

This famous song is recognized as an all-people song of all ages and generations, which all our people love most and sing widely. Concerned with the value of this national treasure, an artistic symbol of our people's life and our own style of socialism, Chairman Kim Jong Il made a meaningful definition that the song is unique to the DPRK, people-centred socialism, which can never be sung in any other countries in the world.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"We are the happiest in the world, which our people including children like singing, is a good song that portrays truthfully the happiness they enjoy now under the care of the Party and their infinite reverence and gratitude to him."

It has been more than 60 years since the birth of the song We are the happiest in the world as a gift of boundless loyalty of the people presented to the Fourth Congress of the WPK in 1961. The Korean people are in deep thought looking back on the nearly 60 years of history of their favorite song on the occasion of the Eighth Party Congress when a new era of great change has been ushered in. Why is the song unique to the DPRK?

We are the happiest in the world is not just a song but socialist philosophy created and proved by our people from their own experience of life. Herein lies a clear answer to the secret of our socialism winning victory after victory without collapse or degeneration through the upheavals of history.

For the children, in fact, the President is their father and the bosom of the party is their beloved home.

In 1961, the Haeju Bereaved Children's School(then) was buzzing with preparations for the national art performances of art groups from schools for bereaved children and primary schools for orphans to be held on the occasion of the Fourth Congress of the WPK. What the children said "our father is Marshal Kim Il Sung and our home is the bosom of the party" stimulated the songwriters in the course of writing a new song presented to our benevolent Party.

The song was staged in chorus of the Haeju Bereaved Children's School in the national art performance of art groups from schools for bereaved children and primary schools for orphans in the presence of the President.

We are the happiest in the world was a proud declaration of the people that announced to the world that a first-ever genuine socialist system, in which a state consists of a large family, was born on this land.

It was since when our people, both young and old, men and women all alike, began to call him their father.

Some people may regard it as a song of children as it was first sung by the children. However, our people have accepted it as a theme song of their life, an all-people hymn of the leader and a song in praise of the Workers' Party of Korea from its birth. The President was a benevolent father of the people including the children across the country while the embrace of the Workers' Party was a dear home of all the people living in the country, and men and women of all ages in his embrace were the real brothers and sisters of a large socialist family. We are the happiest in the world, as a symbol of the unique human relations of socialist Korea, was the song of all the Korean people both in name and reality, and its birthplace was Juche-oriented socialist Korea.

The President would be pleased to see the people and the children singing the song, and when the song was played on the stage of school children's New Year performance, he was all smiles. He would also sing the song when he was delighted to see the farm where rich harvest was witnessed.

In the course of making the devoted efforts to build baby homes, orphanages and schools across the country into the best children's palaces in the world, the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un recalled with deep emotion the historic day when the chorus of the Haeju Bereaved Children's School sang the song We are the happiest in the world for the first time.

That is why the respected Marshal said in an ardent way on the morning of the new year, 2017: Previously, all the people used to sing the song We Are the Happiest in the World, feeling optimistic about the future with confidence in the great Comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. I will work with devotion to ensure that the past era does not remain as a moment in history but is re-presented in the present era. On this first morning of the new year I swear to become a true servant loyal to our people who faithfully supports them with a pure conscience.

It sure is.
