Today thousands of hectares of fields in Kangryong and Ongjin areas have been irrigated with life-giving water, telling about the patriotic devotion of the respected General Secretary for the agricultural development of the country.

If land is the lifeline of the state, water can be called the lifeline of farming. Especially, in our country where the area of arable land is limited and rice production occupies the most important place, severe drought continues every year and flood is frequent in summer, solving the irrigation water problem satisfactorily is of decisive significance in boosting agricultural production.
That is why the respected General Secretary directed primary efforts to solving the water problem in radically developing the agricultural production of the country and unfolded an ambitious blueprint for perfecting the overall irrigation system of the country.
The respected General Secretary directed great efforts to providing the water to thousands of hectares of the water-deficit areas in Kangryong and Ongjin counties in particular and energetically led the struggle for it.
The respected General Secretary at the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in December 2019 clarified the orientation of the struggle and practical ways for bringing about a decisive turn in the economic development of the country and the people's living standard as required by the Korean revolution and the building of a powerful socialist country, stressing the need to actively push ahead with the work for desalination of the Lake Kangryong to use it as irrigation water. And at the 7th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, he unfolded an ambitious blueprint for perfecting the overall irrigation system of the country and gave detailed instructions on the important tasks for pushing ahead with the projects for the irrigation construction, improving medium and small rivers and perpetuating tide-water control dykes, and the construction period for each project, measures for supplying manpower, equipment and materials, matters of principle to be thoroughly maintained in the project. He stressed again that in order to solve the water problem in Ongjin and Kangryong areas, where water is most scarce in South Hwanghae Province, it is necessary to take decisive measures to complete the desalination of Lake Kangryong for agricultural production. He also made a decision to direct the powerful construction force of the People's Army to the irrigation project as required by an extensive and full-scale construction for the irrigation, desalination of Lake Kangryong and tide-water control dykes.
Afterwards, too, the respected General Secretary made frequent inquiries into the project and took all necessary measures to prevent lack of wisdom and courage and lack of equipment and materials. One day he gave detailed instructions that the State Planning Commission, the Agriculture Committee, the South Hwanghae Provincial People's Committee and other relevant units took timely measures for the problems arising in the project including fuel needed for the main dam construction project and another day he saw to it that the senior officials of relevant units frequently visited the construction site to learn about the situation and solve the knotty problems, thus providing active support to completing the project at a high standard in a short period of time.
Thanks to the energetic leadership of the respected General Secretary who attached importance to the project and guided it at every step despite the great state-wide projects, the project was completed in a short span of time, thus realizing the desire of the people in the region for water and turning the area of Kangryong and Ongjin into a granary area.
Indeed, the successful completion of the project is a proud creation and a precious fruition of the great love and patriotic devotion of the respected General Secretary who spares nothing for the happiness of the people.
