The resolution of the Workers' Party of Korea to find a way out for self-growth in wealth and strength or self-prosperity, regarding self-reliance and sci-tech as a powerful driving force for making an epochal progress in socialist construction, is based on the scientific analysis of their role in the revolutionary and social development.
Self-reliance is the spirit of revolution and struggle to solve all problems in the revolution and construction trusting and relying on our ability.
Self-reliance means a powerful motive force that enables the participants into socialist construction to carry out their tasks creditably by giving full play to their strength, wisdom and enthusiasm as befitting masters.
Socialist construction is an unprecedented work, accompanied by confrontation with hostile forces, so it faces a number of unexpected ordeals and difficulties on the way to success. The barriers and challenges standing in the way of socialist progress are numerous, including vicious maneuvers of the hostile forces and severe hardships such as natural disasters.
He who is armed with the spirit of self-reliance pushes forward with socialist construction by creating what he doesn't have and finding out what is insufficient without any hesitation or wavering, even though there are severe ordeals and difficulties standing in his way. That is why self-reliance serves as a powerful driving force for an epochal advance in socialist construction.
Science and technology, along with self-reliance, plays the same role in making an epochal advance in socialist construction.
The miraculous strength of science makes a given nation's strategic position and its developing trends irreversible and promotes the enhancement of a state's power.
Today many countries in the world are trying to find out and realize the strategies of their own for the development of science and technology. It is because an integrated national power and the position of a country today is not determined by its size of territory, population, material wealth or geographical location, but by its level of sci-tech development.
In socialist construction that should be carried out with the long-term confrontation with the imperialists and other hostile forces as an established fact, science and technology is a reliable strategic resource. With an increase in the role of modern science and technology, it has become the bad intention of the hostile forces to suffocate and subjugate socialism by usurping the successes of modern science and technology. Consequently, it is the essential requirement to give priority to the development of science and technology for the successful building of socialism.
The efforts of the Korean people to carry out the tasks put forward by the 7th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea substantiates the fact that the existing threats and challenges can be overcome and a new leap brought out so as to surely make an advance in socialist construction, when every possible effort is made to enhance one's own strength, the Juche-oriented driving force, relying on science and technology with the banner of self-reliance holding higher up.
Under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, the entire Korean people has defended the lifeline of independent national economy, which is the material base and life of the existence of socialism, with self-reliance and sci-tech as a mighty driving force for self-existence and self-development, accumulated new potentials for reconstructing, consolidating and developing all the fields of national economy, thus achieving a number of precious and significant successes in different fields of the economy. Also, forces and means for the increased forest resources, anti-erosion projects, protection of land and environment and urban management have been provided, and a great advance has been achieved in the construction of socialist culture, including science, education, health care and sports. Besides, the efforts made by people with unchanged independent conviction, strong and brave spirit and the great strength of science and technology resulted in the most significant achievements in the national history, for the Party and the revolution, fatherland and people, and for the coming generations, including the strengthening of self-defense capabilities as well as the elevation of its external position.
This shows that the long-term brutal sanctions and blockade imposed by the hostile forces against our Republic and severe natural disasters are helpless against the people who make their energetic efforts with self-reliance and sci-tech as their driving force, and that as long as they have their own strength of self-development and sci-tech, people can accelerate socialist construction dynamically in their strenuous efforts to develop by themselves.
From these scientific analyses, the Workers' Party of Korea has defined self-reliance and sci-tech as a powerful driving force for an epochal advance in socialist construction and expressed its will to achieve a new victory there with resort to it in its 8th Congress.
The world will see once again with deep impression how the Korean people, upholding the decision of the 8th Congress of the WPK, rise like a mountain and achieve greater victory by means of the spirit of self-reliance and sci-tech.
