A Country Where Ordinary Workers are Elected Deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly

 2026.8.11.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"In our Republic, the organs of power at all levels up to the Supreme People's Assembly are made up of the genuine representatives elected directly by the people. The people exercise power through the government organs made up of their representatives."

As Chairman Kim Jong Il said, the superiority of the DPRK, a genuine people's country, is well illustrated by the fact that all working people including ordinary workers, peasants and intellectuals are in power, representing the people's will and fully exercising their rights.

It is such an impressive story heard in no other countries but only in the DPRK that ordinary working people are leading a worthwhile life even as deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly.

It was the day for the election of deputies to the 13th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK in 2014. A woman candidate's photo put on the board in one constituency surprised foreign journalists who visited the polling station. She was Jo Kil Nyo, the leader of the Saemaul Workteam of Road Facilities Management Station in Phyongchon District, Pyongyang.

Is she really a worker?

How come could a worker possibly be elected a deputy to the highest organ of State power?

Who nominated her?

How much is her personal wealth?

It was not until a woman journalist met Mrs. Jo in person that she found the answer to these questions. Raising her thumb up, she praised that only in Korea, could the road keeper, and what is more surprising, a woman be a member of the highest organ of State power.

Deputies from the working-class could only be found in Korea, where the people are masters of the country and masters of everything.

There is far more to say.

In Korea, everybody could be nominated as deputies; even a young woman who is taking care of the orphans and a shoe repairer who has been faithful to his work for decades. The DPRK is a great country, which embraces all people in its bosom and lets them lead a worthwhile life, and thus, it will continue to prosper for all eternity.
