The respected Comrade
"Comrade
President
Whenever we hear the news of moving into new houses in many rural villages of Korea, we think a solemn image of the President who made painstaking efforts to provide farmers with better houses.
One day in November 1973, the President gave a field guidance to the construction site of a two-storeyed apartment at the then Tongbong Cooperative Farm in Hamju County, flying his clothes in the cold wind blowing over Hwangcho Hill.
Looking into the shape and the structure of the newly-built two-storeyed apartment in detail, he pointed to the roof and asked officials if they could rebuild the flat roof and lay a tile, saying that the flat roof couldn't prevent rain leakage.
In fact, the new flats were in a state of leak, and the officials were troubled with the matter.
The senior official of the county, who had thought that a large amount of materials should be used and the design should be redesigned, failed to answer at once.
Telling them with a friendly voice to look round the house together and study what to fix, he looked round the house slowly.
Looking around the roof and walls, he pointed to one place and asked them to look at that one and said that it was not the top of the roof, but the joint corner would leak.
He said that the design should be redesigned and that the space on the left and right sides of the second floor should be prominent in Songnim-style and the space on the back of the floor should also be provided in prominent forwards and also that it would be good to keep the floor covered with a curtain sheet and the modern houses in the rural areas should be built in Songnim-style.
The Songnim-style apartments being built in Songnim, North Hwanghae Province for the first time, was built in two-storeyed apartment houses with a storeyed living room.
He said that it would be a good idea to lay tiles in the way of Songnim because it was difficult to deal with the corner connection, and personally bent down to draw the shape of the roof with a wooden skew on the ground and gave detailed instructions on the plan for making it easy to repair with less material.
He said that if the roof leaked, the peasants would not like it. He stressed that once it leaked, there was no necessity to build the two-storeyed apartment houses so they should renovate it. And he said that if they wanted to redesign, the structure of the room should be improved in conformity with the farmers' habits, instead of calculating only the need to renovate the design and repair the leaks.
"Farmers are not pleased."
This is a vivid expression of the noble outlook of the President on the people to provide the farmers with better living conditions, worrying that there might be even minor shortcomings in their living.
Indeed, the President was the great father of the Korean people who devoted his whole life to the people, regarding "The people are my God" as his motto.
