"Treasure" found by President Kim Il Sung

 2020.10.2.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il said.

"Our officials, whenever they receive President Kim Il Sung's instructions, are moved by his uncommon insight, indefinitely broad vision and profound and in-depth knowledge. Even foreign figures, who met him, be they politicians or scholars, are struck with admiration by his brilliant wisdom and broad vision and lavish praises on him." ("Kim Jong Il's Selected Works" Enlarged Volume 16, Page 46)

President Kim Il Sung was the widest and most delicately aware of politics, economy, history and philosophy, literature and art, life and traditions, customs and origin and common sense in the human world.

It was thanks to the scientific insight and deep inquiry of President Kim Il Sung who judged thousands of things through a thing that apatite was discovered in the DPRK for the first time.

Phosphate fertilizer is one of the three main fertilizers together with nitrogenous fertilizer and potassic fertilizer.

Phosphate fertilizer plays an important role in promoting the photosynthesis and root growth of plants to absorb enough nitrogen and other nutrients and in ripening grains. In particular, it makes it possible for branches and leaves of plants to grow strong to prevent them from damage caused by rainstorms and pests even in areas with low temperature and sunshine due to the effect of abnormal climate. Therefore, it is impossible to do farming properly without phosphate fertilizer.

On June 16, Juche62(1973), the President stressed the need to build a phosphate fertilizer factory and develop the apatite mine quickly.

President wisely led the exploration of apatite, insisting that the apatite should be developed in our country without fail no matter what might happen.

The fatherly leader, who had continued his field guidance day and night every year, was travelling one day by car on the rough road of a hill in Sakju County, North Phyongan Province.

Telling the driver to drive slowly, the great leader was looking at the maize slope out of the car window for a long time where the cobs were full of corn.

Stopping the car, the fatherly leader went into the maize field, touching an ear of ripe maize, picking it up, peeling it off, taking care of its length and girth and weighing it with his hand and carefully looked at the gravel fields where the maize plants took roots.

Guessing the harvest with great satisfaction, he paid homage for their good maize farming to the farmers and officials, who ran late and greeted, and asked them how much compost and chemical fertilizer they had applied to the fields.

But neither the chairperson nor farmers could answer him promptly. In fact, they hadn't applied enough manure and fertilizer to the fields in time. They used to get good harvest every year without much manure or fertilizer in the fields, and they had no idea what the virtues were. Feeling satisfied with good crops every year, they didn't try to know what the secret was.

The great leader, who comprehended the reality, looked again at the maize and millet which had grown well for a while without saying anything. There is no result without reason. He had confidence in hearing their answer that there must be some reason for it.

Even the farmers who had long handled the land as the master of the fields had never thought of the cause of good crops, but he had not overlooked it and was thinking about what its secret would be.

Then he said that apatite must be buried there in the tone of conviction, adding that the corn and millet in the non-manure and fertilizer-free slope were so well thanks to the phosphorus content in that land.

At the moment, both accompanying officials and farmers couldn't help doubting their ears. Though they heard that the great leader had already encyclopedic knowledge, his remarks, looking at one of the crops in the fields and finding out the secret in a moment, were the ones that could not be found out without having the magical ability to comprehend the inside of the world.

It is clear that the plants, which take root and grow on the ground, are much affected by the soil composition and the soil in the area. However, it is not possible for anyone to see the vegetation on the ground and accurately grasp the geological state of the ground. Soil wouldn't reveal its secret easily to anybody that hasn't expert insight, rich knowledge, and clear and sharp analysis.

Sure enough, Sakju County was found rich in apatite as he taught. Apatite, which geologists, too, had concluded that our country had no deposit, the treasure in the land that had not been imagined by the people who had handled the land generation after generation, was thus discovered by the extraordinary insight and scientific judgment of the great leader.

After that, President Kim Il Sung saw to it that a apatite mine was developed in Sakju and personally named it "Phungnyon mine" (mine for the sake of good harvest) and had the manufacturing process of the phosphate fertilizer set up at Chongsu Chemical Factory in close proximity to Sakju.

Thus, it was a precious fruition of the thought and inquiry of the great leader who had always worked heart and soul burning his heart with the warmest love for the people in order to make the Korean people well-fed and well-off as the leader who took responsibility for the destiny of the country and the people.

Since then, our country has been able to produce and supply enough phosphate fertilizer for farming by relying on its own raw materials and achieve the bumper harvest.
