A Phone Call at Midnight

 2026.4.1.

The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, whom the Korean people greeted and held in high esteem for the first time in their 5 000-year history, was not only the most prominent leader in the 20th century but also the supreme incarnation of revolutionary obligation and comradeship.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"The sacred history of Comrade Kim Il Sung's revolutionary activities is the history of comradeship which was opened up and has recorded a series of victories by dint of comradeship."

On March 12, 1992, the President enjoyed at the Mansudae Art Theatre a joint performance was given by art groups of officials engaged in the work dealing with revolutionary history and relics.

Then he had a photo taken with the anti-Japanese revolutionary veterans.

That evening the anti-Japanese revolutionary veterans could not go to sleep as they were filled with great emotion and excitement; they were eager to see the leader again.

At the time when they were filled with happiness, Kim Il Sung was not asleep as well, thinking of them.

Recalling with emotion his meeting with the anti-Japanese revolutionary veterans that day, he called an official at midnight and said:

When I was posing for a photo with them, I felt that those who has not seen me often as well as others wanted to see me again. You should call them so that I can see them again to have a photo taken and a meal with them today. Then all of them would not feel regretful.

The official suddenly looked at the clock; the clock was telling it was a new day.

The official went to the anti-Japanese revolutionary veterans in the early morning told them that Kim Il Sung was calling them.

On receiving the dreamlike call, the veterans were moved to tears by his world of noble affection and obligation.

The story of the midnight call was born as Kim Il Sung always cherished warm affection and obligation for his revolutionary comrades and valued the veteran fighters in the anti-Japanese war as revolutionary elders.

Kim Il Sung started his revolutionary struggle by gaining comrades on the basis of the philosophy that the revolution precisely means the comrades and vice versa. Once he established comradely relations with anybody while waging the revolution for a long time, he took responsible care of the latter's destiny and future to the end, and held tens of thousands of revolutionary fighters in his embrace, showing great trust in and bestowing affection on them. He was, indeed, the supreme incarnation of revolutionary comradeship.
