"The Song of Korea" personally taught by President Kim Il Sung

 2022.6.15.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Indeed, the Korean revolution can be called a heroic epic that was started with songs and has created a history of victory with songs."

During his early revolutionary activities, President Kim Il Sung created a large number of revolutionary literature and art works to instill revolutionary enthusiasm into young people and other broad masses and arouse them to the road of revolution.

Among the many revolutionary songs created by him are the immortal classic masterpiece "The Song of Korea", which we still enjoy singing with patriotism.

The President personally wrote lyrics of this song and composed music in Fusong during his early revolutionary activities. At that time it was reported in the newspaper "Saenal", the organ of the Saenal Children's Union, and widely disseminated among the members and other broad sections of youth.

The President also taught this song to the young communists and members of the revolutionary organizations to implant the love for the country and enthusiasm for the revolution during the days of his revolutionary activities at home in the fall of 1930. He spent a night at O Jung Song's house, the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighter who was teaching at Pomun village school in Phungri dong, Yuphyo myon, Onsong county, North Hamgyong Province at that time and then he went to Kwangdok in Seson dong (Seson ri of Onsong county now) to meet the members of the revolutionary organizations the next morning. He, who faced the magnificent sunrise with the young communists, said that it was the fatherland that everyone wished to embrace and Korea was literally the land of morning calm, the land of golden tapestry.

Then the President asked O Jung Song what songs he had taught students at Pomun village school and if he knew "The Song of Korea".

When O Jung Song answered he had never heard of it, the President told him with a smile on his face said that the revolutionaries, especially those who worked with youth should be able to join the masses and sing songs and dance with them, and he would teach "The Song of Korea".

President Kim Il Sung, who took the delighted youth to the pine forest of Kwangdok, met all the members of the revolutionary organizations waiting there. As he met the leader of Onsong Anti-Imperialism Union, the President said that he concerned a lot of hardships he suffered since he served an independence army. And then the President met the leader of Phungin Peasants' Association and encouraged him saying that he must have taken the trouble to lead the organization for two years while doing the farming.

After acquainting himself with their revolutionary work, the President praised them for their success and indicated the tasks for expanding the organizations and uniting broad masses into revolutionary organizations to revolutionize Onsong area.

After the meeting, the President said he would teach "The Song of Korea" as promised and personally sang it to them.

The Song of Korea

Morning sun is so beautiful and fair

Our is called Korea, land of morning calm

So dear and so beautiful a country

Cannot be found elsewhere in the world

Let us set up our government in our land

Where all Japanese and landlords are gone forever

Let us being eternal glory to our land

By our resourceful people's will

President Kim Il Sung informed them of the profound meaning and notable problems of singing the song and taught them one bar after another swinging his hand. They repeated the song after the President, dreamed of the day when they would defeat the Japanese imperialists and establish a genuine people's government and all the people would enjoy a happy life to their hearts' content.

As they were all aware of the song, the President pointed out that all of them including himself were revolutionary comrade-in-arms who were responsible for the Korean revolution and shared life and death on the road of revolution, and so he would rely on them and they would rely on him and thus firmly fight for the victory of Korean revolution because nobody could think of the victory of the struggle without the solid unity of the organization and the revolutionary ethics between comrades.

The immortal classic masterpiece "The Song of Korea"!

President Kim Il Sung crossed the Tuman River, a dangerous border covered with the forest of bayonets of Japanese imperialists, to teach it to the domestic revolutionaries.

Indeed, the song was the banner of patriotism that ignited the flames of the revolution to the hearts of the young communists of Korea at the first momentum of the revolution.
