Leading the Armistice Talks to Victory

An anecdote about a car that appeared in the venue of the armistice talks is one of the many stories, which clearly demonstrate how the newly-born Korean People's Army humbled the arrogant US imperialists in the eyes of the world under the wise leadership of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung.

The armistice talks held during the Fatherland Liberation War were no less than a war which was no less complicated and tough than the real battles fought with guns and arms, and they were also a serious political confrontation with the US imperialists to defend the dignity of the country and the people and the glory of the nation.

In such battlefields, well-reasoned speeches and clever wits are by no means no less important than a powerful military power and may serve as key factors for bringing about a great victory.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il said,

"The great Comrade Kim Il Sung, with a keen insight into the changing military and political situation, weak points and cunning schemes of the enemy, had always led the service personnel and people to victory by applying his matchless wit, singular strategy and tactics and unique art of warfare."

It was another day of mid-September of Juche 40 (1951), when the great leader summoned the senior delegate of our side for the armistice talks.

At that time, the US imperialists, while trying to restore their prestige and resolve the conflict between the confederates through the armistice talks, attempted to disguise their aggressive aims by pretending to be "the supporter of peace" in Korea and to ultimately reach a "ceasefire of glory".

The enemies ridiculously put forward an unfair sophistic proposal whereby the demarcation line should be placed tens of kilometers further north from the line where the warring sides were confronting each other, in "compensation" for their naval and air superiority, and when this wouldn't do, they deliberately made up difficulties for the armistice talks.

The great leader taught the senior delegate from our side that we can steer the armistice talks towards our interests only if we take the initiative. And he took an example of a battle in which one may lose even with outnumbered forces and thus may not be able to achieve one's aims if one fails to take the initiative and stands on the defensive. He then went on to teach him the strategy and tactics and ingenious ideas to employ in taking the initiative in the armistice talks.

As the senior delegate took to his heart the great leader's teachings filled with wise analysis and closely-knit argument, which would be employed to stop the moves of the enemies who were trying to drag out the armistice talks with their tricks, he became confident that he could take down the enemies dreaming of the "ceasefire of glory" with a single blow.

The great leader, casting an affectionate look at him who was now full of confidence, told him to change the car to be used in his rides to and from the venue of the armistice talks.

At his, he was very surprised. Speaking of the car to be used, originally, it originally belonged to the American ambassador to Seoul, which was seized by the Korean People's Army men a year ago when Seoul was being liberated.

The great leader, giving an affectionate tap on his shoulder, told him with a big smile that he was giving this car not because he doesn't have one. He said that if the senior delegate went in that car, the senior delegate from the enemy side and its other members coming to the armistice talks with a white flag, would be ashamed with the feeling of being a loser and wouldn't be able to hold their heads up, while, in contrast, the senior delegate and other members from our side would be able to step out onto the venue of the armistice talks openly and squarely and with dignity and pride of being the victor that humbled the arrogant US armed invaders, who used to boast of being the "strongest" in the world.

In this manner, the deluxe car which had once represented the United States in South Korea and which used to be the symbol of the swashbuckling America, became the private car of our senior delegate. The enemy side, who were coming to the venue of the armistice talks dreaming of the "ceasefire of glory", as they caught sight of the car, gave out a heavy sigh and had no other choice but to admit their defeat.

Indeed it was entirely thanks to the outstanding military diplomacy of the great leader, the brilliant commander, who had spent many sleepless nights to set forth the unique strategy and tactics for the talks and bright and ingenious ideas despite the pressure of work coming from shouldering the heavy burden of the war as well as taking care of the people's living during the whole period of two years of the armistice talks that the Korean people could have been able to celebrate the victory of July 27.
