Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"It is very important for young people to have far-reaching ideals and ambitions."

Chairman Kim Jong Il, with the far-reaching plan and great ambition, entered Kim Il Sung University, the highest edifice of Juche education, on September 1, 1960.

It was the day that the first class started.

Hearing the news that Kim Jong Il was attending classes, the whole university was filled with great emotion. And his classmates were even more excited as they had the honor of having him in their class.

As the time went by, their feeling of awkwardness towards him was faded away by his benevolent and generous personality and the students said what they thought without hesitation.

At that time, a student rushed into the classroom, later knowing the fact the Chairman was in the classroom.

He warmly received his greetings and asked him how many years he had served in the army and when he was discharged. He continued a friendly talk with him, saying how glorious and happy they were, as they, the sons and daughters of the workers and peasants who could not even think of going to school before the liberation of the country, had become dignified students at the university, adding that they should never forget the great care and benevolence of the President even for a moment.

Looking at them, he said that they had come from all parts of the country, and their backgrounds and ages were not the same, so they may feel rather awkward at first, but they were all revolutionary comrades who had come to the highest edifice of science with the single aim at making devoted efforts for the Korean revolution, so they should learn and teach one another, help and lead one another to build their class into a communist group.

His instruction was a precious instruction that led them to one goal and one aspiration, who had different hometowns, ideas and ambitions.

Later, when he met a new student, he said that the university period, the last course of school education, was an important period of the students for establishing the revolutionary world outlook and training them politically and firmly while preparing themselves scientifically and theoretically to advance into society, so this precious period should be spent most significantly and worthwhile. He also said that the most important tasks facing the students were, first, to prepare themselves thoroughly to be revolutionary pillars boundlessly loyal to the leader, second, to study well, third, to train themselves in a revolutionary way through a strong organizational life, fourth, to acquire communist moral traits and fifth, to take an active part in military training and acquire Juche-oriented tactics and high military skills.

Indeed, the precious teachings of the Chairman clearly indicated the noble traits to be possessed by the university students of the DPRK and the Juche-oriented national cadres and were a great programme and guidelines of life arousing the great consciousness and heavy sense of mission of the students.
