President
"We spare nothing if it is for the good of the younger generation."
Among many anecdotes showing the personality of President
One day in November 1974, the President saw several flatfish weighing 130kg each, which had been offered by fishermen on the east coast.
They were so big that they looked like animals, not fish.
He repeatedly exclaimed that they were really big, looking round them slowly.
Officials around him were also surprised to see such big flatfish, saying that they were as big as pigs.
They were bigger than a pig weighing 100kg, the President said, asking how old they were.
After listening to an answer they were 30 years old, he said that if fish grow long, they might grow so big, praising the fishermen for having taken the trouble to catch the fish.
Saying that 130kg would be enough for 260 people to eat if each of them took half a kilogram, adding that this was very great.
Then the officials pictured tempting flatfish dishes, including fries and sliced raw flatfish, processed to be palatable.
Now, the President moved towards the heads of the fish, saying that everybody would see such rare fish for the first time and that specimens should be well made with the fish without breaking their fins to be sent to schools.
Students would be really fascinated to see the flatfish, he said, urging the officials to send one of the fish to
The officials flushed as they had regarded the rare flatfish merely as food.
But an official thought of treating the President to one of the seven fish.
As if he had read the mind of the official, the President instructed the officials to send all the fish to educational institutions, without using even one of them for other purpose, and said that they had better send some of them to the University of National Economy, Mangyongdae Revolutionary School and the University of Fisheries.
Thus trucks loaded with the big flatfish left for the universities and school.
No other country's educational history knows such a national leader as President
