On Ryongnam Hill stands a granite monument inscribed with the poem 'O Korea, I Will Add Glory to Thee'.

It is an impromptu recited by Kim Jong Il on the day when he entered Kim Il Sung University.

On September 1, Juche 49 (1960), he went to the university in plain uniform.

After exchanging greetings with his fellow students he climbed to the hilltop with them.

That morning Ryongnam Hill was in all its autumnal glory.

Recollecting with deep emotion his visit to the hill with President Kim Il Sung and mother Kim Jong Suk just after liberation, Kim Jong Il said that it was a noble duty he owned on behalf of the times, revolution, country and people to carry forward the revolutionary cause of the President through generations.

Saying a poem seemed to enter his mind of its own accord on the beautiful hill, he improvised a poem in a quiet yet impassioned voice.

The poem reflected his firm faith and determination to become the master of the Korean revolution and lead Korea to the bright future, true to the lofty intention of President Kim Il Sung.

O KOREA, I WILL ADD GLORY TO THEE

His immortal masterpiece reverberated far and wide carrying his great ambition and ideal to add glory to Korea by carrying forward the cause of the Sun, the cause of Juche.
